The Kam Wah Chung Field Trip

Dear ASCO members,

Here is information about our field trip on July 7th with Don Hann. This is a follow up to his ASCO talk in March. You can review his talk on the ASCO website: https://ascoinfo.net/event-6478534

This will be a full day, driving from Bend to John Day and back. We will be leaving Bend by 7:45 am on July 7th and meeting at The Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site in John Day at 125 NW Canton Street. The drive to John Day is 3 hours.

There will be two tours of the museum with 8 people on each tour. Our first tour is at 11am, and the second tour starts at noon.

The group that is waiting for their tour will go with Don Hann to the gravesites of Lung On and Doc Hay. Don will also talk about the Chinatown in John Day.

We will have lunch in the park (bring with you) before driving about 30 minutes to look at a mining site above Canyon City. There is an option there to drive up a rough road to see the site from the top if we have drivers and vehicles that are able to navigate there.

There is also the option to tour the Grant County Historical Museum in Canyon City. The Museum is open until 4pm.

We should be heading home between 4 and 5.

The tour leader is Leslie Olson
