Drive to Fort Rock from Bend: Approx. 1 1/4 hours; meet-up to Caravan at 9:45 AM by South Bend Safeway near Walmart.
Tour Length: Approx. 2 hours plus drive time to site of Approx 1 1/4 hours. Bring Water and a BAG LUNCH, Sun protection....and a good hat!
Entrance fee: Will be covered by ASCO.
Description: Fort Rock Cave is near Fort Rock State Natural Area. It is the site of instrumental archaeological discoveries dating back over 10,000 years. The Fort Rock Basin is a vital part of Native American history and life. Fort Rock Cave is a National Historic Landmark. Park Rangers from La Pine State Park will lead the tour and explain the history of the region.
Tour Info: We will caravan to site after rendezvous at the Bend South Safeway Parking lot by Walmart at 9:45AM. Tours begin at Fort Rock State Natural Area at NOON.
We plan to arrive there by 11:30 to get ready and eat your packed lunch. From there, our tour will be shuttled in a state van, and one of our vehicles, to and from the cave site.
Be Prepared: Fort Rock Cave is a remote area and you will be required to travel at least 3/4 mile on uneven, dusty terrain. Weather is usually hot and windy in the summer. Bring water and dress weather appropriate. Sun protection highly recommended.
