Dry River Canyon Pictographs Field Trip Recap

On May 22nd, eighteen ASCO members headed east from Bend to view the pictographs along the Dry River Canyon. As discussed by John Zancanella, a tank/well unique to the Dry River Canyon provided the basis for a long history of occupation stemming from pre-contact to the first homestead in the area. Pat Kliewer spoke about the successful efforts to get this site on the National Historic Register.

ASCO has been privileged to have had a long association with the Walker family whose protection of this site has been exemplary. We are very grateful to have been granted access again, sharing the visit with some of the family members.
