Bios and Description: Kathleen Springer and Jeff Pigati are research geologists in the Geosciences and Environmental Change Science Center at the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver, Colorado. Their research is focused on understanding the response of hydrologic systems in arid environments to past episodes of abrupt climate change at sites throughout the southwestern U.S. They used a systematic approach at White Sands National Park to decipher the stratigraphic sequence, determine the paleoenvironmental conditions, and establish the age of the human and megafaunal footprints.
