It has been a long two years living with the Covid pandemic. We've learned how to Zoom, rather than meet in person for presentations. One benefit of the switch has been the ability to record the presentations and make them available for later viewing; all are linked to our website at https://www.ascoinfo.net/past-presentations.html. ASCO again supported the Archaeology Roadshow in 2021, which, like our presentations, was online this year and remains available for viewing at https://archaeologyroadshow.org/ . And, this summer, field trips resumed to Devils Pass & Elk Lake Guard Station, Rimrock Draw Rock Shelter and Connley Caves; before having to be suspended due to the surge in the Covid Delta variant. I want to thank those of you who have stayed connected with ASCO.
Over the past summer your Board has been hard at work implementing some important changes that we want to share with you.
We’re in the final stages of implementing a new membership software package that we believe will make it more enjoyable and easier for you to stay in touch with all ASCO’s activities. You will be able to join and renew your membership online using a credit card if you wish, sign up for field trips online and have access to a new online member directory. There’s even a button to make it very easy to donate to ASCO if you are so inclined! Learn more about these changes at our upcoming all-member meeting on September 30th.
For more than a decade your Board has done a good job managing ASCO’s expenses. However, our biggest single expense each year is our legally required insurance which has slowly continued to increase over the years. For this reason, the Board has approved and is recommending an increase of $5 to our annual membership dues for a total of $25 per year. This change requires a vote by the members for final approval so we encourage you to attend the September 30th meeting to vote on this proposal. The fee increase is not being driven by the new software costs which are quite reasonable and will offset most existing technology costs.
You’ll also have a chance to hear from our Treasurer, Josie Powell, for a review of our current financials. We’ll update you on the rental situation on the OSU Cascade campus, along with a preview of upcoming speakers.
